Welcome to New Haven High School

NHHS Students, Parents, and Guardians,

This Wednesday marks the return to face-to-face learning for our high schoolers who chose in person learning.  Please remember the rules that were put in place when we returned in the fall.  One-way hallways, extended passing time, and block scheduling will still be taking place.  If we maintain the same attention and care to the rules as we did in the fall, everything will run smoothly.

For those of you who borrowed one of our Chromebooks when we went virtual, please bring them to the front lobby before the start of the school day on Wednesday along with your Chromebook charging cords.  We need the Chromebooks and cords brought back so that they can be returned to the classrooms for daily instruction.

There will be a station in the front lobby for books returns as well.  If you are no longer in need of a book you were assigned first semester, please bring them in on Wednesday as well.

Thank you in advance and we look forward to seeing everyone in a couple of days

Mr. Timmerman, NHHS Principal

NHHS Parents and Guardians,

Below is a communication with information regarding semester two (S2) classes and how the high school will start the second semester.  Please take a moment to read over the letter and feel free to contact the office if you have any questions.  The office will be closed from December 18th at the end of the day until January 4th.

NHHS Parents and Guardians,

With the health department and board of education electing for our building to remain virtual for the remainder of the semester, we have decided to cancel exams for semester one (S1) at the high school.  Students who would like an opportunity to raise their final grade will be given an alternative assessment/project by their teachers.  Details for the assessment/project will be given one week in advance and have a due date of December 16th by noon.  The goal of the assessment/project will be to increase a student’s grade, not to lower it.  If a student’s project/assessment is higher than their current grade, then their grade will be raised.  If it is not, then their grade will remain as it was prior to the assessment/project (Q1 50%/Q2 50%).  Alternative assessments/projects do not take the place of a semester’s worth of work.

Students who choose not to do the additional work will receive a final grade that is an average of their quarter one (Q1) and quarter two (Q2).

Thank you again for continuing to work with us during this ever-changing school year.  If you have questions for concerns, please reach out to the high school at 586-749-5104.

William Timmerman,  NHHS Principal

Flow Chart

Dear New Haven Families:

Last night the decision was made by the board of education to keep our High School students virtual until our return from Christmas Break on Jan 13th.  It did not make sense to bring them back on Dec 9th and only have them attend sporadically due to finals the following week.  High School administration will reach out to their families to inform them about finals and how these will be handled.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!   Please stay safe and we will see our Middle and Elementary students back on Dec 7th!

Cheryl Puzdrakiewicz

NHHS Parents and Guardians,

With the Governor and MDHHS’s most recent mandate for all high schools to go virtual, we will be deploying Chromebooks on Monday and Tuesday to all face-to-face students that need one.  To get your student a Chromebook, please complete Mrs. Puzdrakiewicz’s survey that she sent out on November 13th.  You will need to complete the survey to get your Chromebook.  We will be sending them home with your students once the form is completed (Monday or Tuesday).  We will also be having each student take home the contents of their lockers on Monday and Tuesday, so that we can do a deep cleaning while students are away.  Any items left in the lockers on Wednesday will be thrown out.  If you are unable to get your Chromebook and the contents of your locker, please call the office to arrange a pick up time.

Starting Wednesday, face-to-face students will be utilizing the Google Classroom accounts they set up with each teacher this fall.   Teachers will communicate with their students via Classroom, with live Zoom lessons, office hours, and assignments.  Weekly requirements and meeting dates will be posted at the beginning of each week by 8:00 a.m.  Students should be all set with their login information as they have been using them throughout the year.  If assistance is needed, please contact the office or your student’s teacher through their school email.

Please do not forget to fill out your Semester 2 (S2) Face-to-Face/Virtual Enrollment Choice Form if you have not already done so.  Forms must be completed by November 18th for all NHHS students

Thank you for completing both forms and we will be in contact with more information soon,

William Timmerman, NHHS Principal
